Ineos Pauses Production of the Grenadier Due to Supply Chain Issues

Ineos Grenadier production has been paused due to a critical component shortage caused by financial difficulties faced by one of its suppliers. This part, though unspecified, is essential for completing both the Grenadier SUV and Quartermaster models, making it impossible for the company to continue production until the issue is resolved. The supplier’s situation is closely monitored, but the production pause is expected to last until late 2024 or early 2025. Despite the halt, Ineos has reassured customers that it has decent stock levels of already-built vehicles to meet some demand during this period.

Ineos Automotive CEO Lynn Calder told Automotive News Europe on September 19,

“The supplier is in a pre-insolvency situation. It’s a trim part but one that we can’t sell the car without. I know that the [supplier] is working really hard to try and turn around their business and I want to give them every opportunity to do that. We will be leaving no stone unturned to try and get back online as fast as possible. Our momentum is great. We were looking at first-half 2024 number last week and we are up more than 300 percent versus last year. We are a couple of months away from hitting our 20,000th delivery to a customer.”

Ineos is also working to secure a backup supplier for the necessary component.

The production pause coincides with Ineos preparing to expand its brand into Mexico and China, increasing its global reach to nearly 50 markets. Despite the shutdown, both launches will proceed as scheduled, according to Calder, who also noted that demand remains strong.

In 2024, the Ineos Grenadier saw strong global demand, particularly in North America, where it sold out shortly after its release. Before launching in the U.S., the vehicle had already received 7,000 orders. Ineos Automotive expects to deliver between 8,000 and 10,000 units annually in the U.S., with around 800 to 1,000 vehicles delivered per month. Despite its niche market as an off-road SUV, the Grenadier has resonated well with consumers, driven by its rugged design and BMW-sourced engine.
