Ineos Automotive Unveils Plans for a New Electric 4WD in 2026

Ineos Grenadier

In February 2023, we reported that Ineos Automotive was rumored to be working on releasing a smaller, electric version of the Grenadier based on a skateboard-style platform.

This rumor has been confirmed by The Ineos announcement of a collaboration with leading automotive supplier Magna to develop and launch a new electric 4WD vehicle, slated for production in 2026 at Magna’s Graz, Austria facility.

Lynn Calder, CEO of Ineos Automotive, shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming electric vehicle (EV), stating that it will provide customers with a zero-emission option while maintaining excellent off-road capabilities and on-road comfort and performance. The forthcoming 4WD will be smaller than the Ineos Grenadier, which was developed with Magna’s assistance and boasts world-class off-road performance.

This announcement comes after Ineos Automotive confirmed in May 2022 that it would introduce a zero-emission model line. The new all-electric 4WD will be a unique offering for customers, as it will not only boast zero emissions but also retain the Grenadiers proven off-road prowess without sacrificing comfort or performance on the road.

Ineos Automotive has a strong relationship with Magna, having previously worked together on the engineering and development of the Grenadier station wagon and pick-up models. Magna is well-positioned to take on Ineos Automotive’s third model line and has signed an agreement to start production of the new 4WD in 2026. The vehicle’s development process will include a rigorous testing program on Austria’s Schöckl mountain, conveniently located close to Magna’s complete vehicle assembly facility.

Calder acknowledged the value of Magna’s agility, knowledge, and experience in complete vehicle development programs, citing the successful collaboration with the Grenadier as a solid foundation for their continued partnership. She expressed confidence that the new 4WD would contribute to the growth of Ineos Automotive as a global automotive brand.

Magna is one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers and independent contract manufacturers with operational infrastructure in twenty-nine countries on five continents. Its complete vehicle assembly facility in Graz produces a variety of models for numerous automakers, including conventional internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and electric vehicles.
