Ineos Automotive to Resume Production in January Following Supply Chain Resolution

Ineos Automotive has announced that production of its Grenadier and Quartermaster models will resume in early January 2025. The restart follows a critical component shortage that forced the company to halt operations in September 2024 (we wrote about the production pause back in September 2024). The disruption was linked to financial difficulties faced by a key supplier, Recaro Automotive, which filed for bankruptcy in July 2024.

According to the press release, all production partners have been informed and are prepared to support the resumption of operations at Ineos Automotive’s Hambach facility, a state-of-the-art plant responsible for manufacturing the Grenadier station wagon and the Quartermaster double-cab pickup. These vehicles are distributed across five continents.

CEO of Ineos Automotive Lynn Calder expressed optimism about the resolution.

“It’s great news that a solution has been found so quickly. Automotive supply chains are extremely complex, but we were not willing to compromise on quality. We are satisfied that we have found the best possible outcome.”

Calder highlighted the company’s strong sales performance in 2024 as a testament to the Grenadier’s popularity.

“By this summer, we had already sold as many Grenadiers as we did for the whole of 2023. We are on track to have over 20,000 Grenadiers on the road by the end of the year,” she added. “With significant growth in major new markets such as China and Mexico, alongside substantial expansion in the U.S., I believe 2025 will be our best year yet.”

The Grenadier, known for its rugged off-road capabilities and utilitarian design, has established a strong presence in 50 countries. Recent additions to its sales network include key markets like Mexico and China, bolstering Ineos’ position as a global player in the automotive industry.

Calder also took the opportunity to thank customers for their patience during the production hiatus.

“I’d like to give a huge thanks to our customers for their patience. We are happy to get back on track and look forward to handing them the keys to their Grenadiers as soon as possible.”

The Hambach facility, acquired by IneosAutomotive from Mercedes-Benz in 2021, is a cornerstone of the company’s operations. Equipped with advanced manufacturing technology, the plant underscores the company’s commitment to quality and efficiency in vehicle production. The Grenadier station wagon and Quartermaster pickup models have been designed to cater to adventurous lifestyles and professional needs, appealing to customers who prioritize durability and capability.
