Go Fast Campers Introduces Maverick XL Hybrid Platform Camper

Overland vehicles are becoming increasingly intricate and expensive but, truth be told, overland travel is not so much about the vehicle as it is about the journey, and every dollar spent on the vehicle is a dollar less that can be invested in actual travel. What if we told you that you could have a brand new vehicle equipped for less than $30,000? Go Fast Campers recently introduced an awesome Platform Camper that is designed for the well-priced and incredibly popular Ford Maverick.

The Platform Camper is essentially a topper mated to a wedge roof tent which is designed to be incredibly strong and lightweight. Marketed alone at around $7,700, the Platform Camper is an affordable solution, especially when you consider that a basic topper alone for the Ford Maverick will cost between $1,500 and $3,500, and a decent wedge rooftop tent will set you back an equal amount. The total weight for the Maverick Platform Camper is only 255-pounds, and the combination of a lightweight and aerodynamic platform and the excellent fuel efficiency of the Maverick will further ensure that you will be digging into your wallet less often for fuel and more often for experiences.

Together, a Maverick XL Hybrid and Platform Camper can be purchased for $28,695 total.

“For $19,000 less than the price of the average new car sold right now, the Ford Maverick and GFC Platform Camper offer unprecedented value. We’re enabling more people to experience the comfort, everyday practicality, convenience, and security offered by truck campers, and doing that with an American-made product that turns your truck bed into a blended indoor-outdoor living space that works like a portable cabana.”

states Wiley Davis, Founder, and CEO of GFC.

By now, you have all the information you need about the Maverick (which is even more capable with the Tremor Off-Road package) so let’s have a look at the Platform Camper itself.

The Platform Camper offers a 50 x 90-inch sleep surface complete with a two-layer foam mattress, plus a 7.5-foot-tall enclosed living area in a package that fits the truck’s 4.5-foot bed while adding a mere 6.5-inches of total height to the vehicle when closed. The topper itself offers day-to-day versatility, and the vehicle can be used to pay for itself while you plan and save for the next adventure. Closed, the camper’s roof can carry up to 500-pounds of cargo, be that work gear or fun gear. Extruded aluminum T-track surrounds the camper’s perimeter, offering a surface to attach accessories like axes, lights, awnings, or tools. A tubular aluminum space frame construction distributes loads evenly across the entire length of the Maverick’s bed rails and locking aluminum panels hinge at the top, providing total access to the bed. Combined with an intelligently designed drawer system, you should quite easily be able to load and access all manner of gear without too much hassle.

The camper’s hinges, latches, and all frame components are machined from billet aluminum, maximizing strength and minimizing weight, while the camper’s roof is made from translucent honeycomb composite. The wedge tents feature a removable, modular floor that can transform from a sleep surface to a bunk bed to a standing height work surface for organizing gear, tapping on a laptop, or making a sandwich. The sleeping area can be accessed via an external ladder, convenient when you travel with a load of gear and need to utilize the entire load area.

Practically, this combination of platform and vehicle makes sense and, at this price point, opens up the opportunity for more people to discover and enjoy overland travel in comfort and with the peace of mind that comes from traveling in a new vehicle and checks all the boxes.

Lead time for the Maverick Platform Camper is approximately eight weeks, and the camper can either be installed in Bozeman, Montana, or delivered and installed at your home.
