Ford Super Duty Wins North American Truck of the Year

Truck of the year - 2023 Ford Super Duty F-250 Tremor Off-Road Package

The Ford Super Duty has won North American Truck of the Year for 2024. Over 50 vehicles were eligible for the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle Awards (NACTOY) this year, which were winnowed down to three finalists in each of the three categories. Five of the nine finalists for this year’s honors were EVs, including all of the vehicles in the utility/crossover bracket. The Ford Super Duty beat out the Chevy Colorado and Chevy Silverado EV for Truck of the Year. The hybrid Toyota Prius won Car of the Year, and the Kia EV9 took home the Utility Vehicle prize.

Ford Super Duty Lineup

Ford’s F-Series Super Duty lineup is extensive, ranging from the baseline F-250 all the way to the gigantic commercial utility F-600. The Blue Oval introduced an all-new 6.8L V8 gas engine for its Super Duty trucks in 2023 and added significant new technology to its range of 6.7L diesel motors, including a high-output version that produces over 1,200 pound-feet of torque. Of particular interest to the overlander is the off-road-oriented Tremor package, which includes either that high-test diesel or the optional 7.3L gas V8 (430 horsepower), along with 35-inch tires, 1.7-inch twin-tube dampers tuned for rough terrain, underbody armor, increased ride height, a locking rear differential, and selectable Hill Descent, Rock Crawl, and Trail driving modes. An optional 2-kilowatt Pro Power onboard battery system can power a range of electronics.

The Ford F-150 Lightning snagged the NACTOY Truck of the Year medal in 2023 (the first time an EV had won), and Ford products have won five of the last seven Truck of the Year awards. 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the NACTOY awards, which are chosen by a jury of 50 professional automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. The independent jurors honor “excellence in innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction, and value.”
