Filson Debuts Alcan Moto Collection

A new line of motorcycle apparel has hit the industry, and it’s pretty darn hot. Filson, an established outdoor outfitter since 1897, has launched their first-ever moto collection using toned-down, natural-looking fabrics that blend in well with the outdoors. The Alcan Collection consists of pants and jackets, along with helmets and gloves. You’ll also find tool rolls and backpacks, which, the same as Filson’s moto jacket and pants, are made from the same durable, classic materials Filson is known for. filson motorcycle gear waterproofing

As Alex Carleton, Filson CCO, notes, “Riders have been wearing Filson gear for decades[…] this collection was a natural extension for us.”

Filson appears to have put thoughtful consideration into the design of the Alcan Collection, offering more rider-specific details, like longer sleeves and pant legs, articulated elbows, and extended back panels. These specifications, combined with Cordura reinforcement, keep riders protected from the elements.

I was curious about waterproofing and discovered Filson products are made from a “heavy-duty cotton canvas saturated in a paraffin wax mixture by England’s iconic British Millerain”—a water-resistant process used since the early 1900s.

What I really like about the Alcan Collection is the gear looks stylish enough for off-bike excursions. For men, anyway. I’d love to see some more female-centric designs from the company. Filson’s website says men and ‘unisex’ for gender—the latter of which doesn’t look very flattering to the female form or any different than the male-specific gear. The neutral tones and natural look are refreshing, as opposed to all black (boring) or flashy pinks, greens, and yellows (not everyone’s style). Until I saw the Filson moto gear line, it never occurred to me that earth-toned gear can be sexy—or maybe that’s just the bad-ass riding they’re doing in this video:
