EarthCruiser USA, LLC, has announced that it will be ceasing operations, marking the end of its 16-year journey in the overland travel market. The company, known for its innovative designs, will officially close its doors on April 25, 2024.
Citing economic challenges and shifts in market dynamics, EarthCruiser has decided to discontinue its operations. The decision comes after thorough strategic analysis and deliberation.
Lance Gillies, EarthCruiser CIO and Founder, stated,
“Our journey over the past years has been extraordinary. We are incredibly grateful to our loyal customers, dedicated employees, and industry partners for their support and trust in our brand. Although this decision marks the end of an era, we are proud of our legacy and impact on the world of travel, automotive innovation, and overlanding. We hope our vehicles, our customers, and their stories will continue to inspire the adventurous spirit in all of us.”
It is speculated that elevated production expenses and a saturated premium overland vehicle market have played significant roles in the decision to discontinue operations. EarthCruiser is, ostensibly, an Australian firm established in 2008 by Lance Gillies and Michelle Boltz. EarthCruiser specializes in crafting off-road recreational vehicles and truck campers for expedition and overlanding purposes. The founders started the company after struggling to find an appropriate vehicle for their journey across the Great Sandy Desert.
We have reached out to the EarthCruiser communications team to establish whether only the US office will close and the Australian office will not, but have not received a response. Our research indicates that EarthCruiser USA and EarthCruiser Australia are related but separate entities.
EarthCruiser has been pivotal in developing vehicles that have enabled adventurers to explore the most isolated parts of the world. The company’s lineup includes models such as the EXP, FX, and Terranova, along with their latest offering, the GMC HUMMER EV EarthCruiser Upfit.
The company is currently coordinating with legal professionals to ensure an orderly liquidation in compliance with state laws. Further details regarding the liquidation process will be announced soon.
