It seemed as if this year’s SEMA show may have been a touch short on new products relative to the overland segment. One of the more interesting products we did find was the new Walrus winch from ComeUP USA. While new to the U.S. market under their own name, ComeUp has been building winches for more than 37 years. Many of their winches have been sold in the U.S. but under other highly regarded names. They are perhaps best known for adorning the fronts of most Arctic Trucks. Their new Walrus winch proves once again they are an industry leader.
The Walrus comes in two capacities, 16,500-lb and 20,000-lb. They also come with an IP 68 rating which means absolutely no ingress of water or dust. Walrus winches are water-tight down to 1.8 meters, but let’s hope you never have to test that claim. It comes with a fully sealed contactor and motor, as well as a military-grade remote control and twist-on connector. An LED indicated thermal sensor ensures you are aware of any excess heat build-up. The housing is constructed of die-cast aluminum with the three-stage planetary gear fabricated from hardened steel. The 20,000-lb Walrus can spool at 2.3 feet per minute. True to it’s name, it is a beast of thing.
Comeup is known for unique technologies like their patented cone braking system.
