Toyota Tundra

There’s no shortage of suitable full-size pickups for overlanding but the Tundra remains one of, if not the best, option. Sure, there are alternatives on the market, but when it comes to build quality and reliability, the Tundra remains best-in-class. It’s for these reasons and more that Senior Editor Ashley Giordano and partner (and professional videographer and photographer) Richard Giordano chose their well-loved second-gen Tundra for around-the-world travel instead of investing in something new. As it stands, they have already traversed much of Europe and are currently finishing their time in Morocco without issue (learn more on the XOverland Network). Crucially, the Tundra was over-engineered from the factory to endure daily abuse, and as someone working within the overlanding/exploration industry, I can’t stress enough that this is paramount. Repeatedly, I see overlanders (myself included) invest a fortune into upgrading a vehicle that was flawed from the beginning, and when all is said and done, it remains problematic. A pinnacle overland vehicle will drive around the world in stock configuration, and while it does not require aftermarket support, it’s an added bonus. Cue today’s 2014 Toyota Tundra Limited Edition Crew Cab (150,000 miles), which has been meticulously built with top-tier parts and accessories and is topped with a well-equipped A.R.E shell. If you’d like to better understand why the second-gen Tundra is an ideal international travel companion, then listen to Scott Brady and Richard Giordano discuss The Joys of Overlanding and a Simple Vehicle on the Overland Journal podcast

From the Seller:

“I built this truck back in 2018 when I was shooting Long Range Precision Rifle matches professionally. The great thing about this truck is its versatility; it works wonders for anything firearms-related but was built for off-roading and overlanding (even though I haven’t actually used it in that capacity at all—shooting always remained the priority). Ninety-eight percent of the miles are highway miles, and I have an in-house mechanic at my company who has meticulously maintained it. A few years ago, my brother-in-law (also a shooter) and I started Abel Suppressor Co. As a result, I have stopped shooting at a professional level in order to focus on building the highest quality suppressors in existence, and this truck is not getting used at all. I’d love to see this truck continue to get used, whether for overlanding, shooting, or something else that I haven’t even thought of.”
