Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road

First released to the US market in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma carried forward the workhorse credentials of the venerable HiLux but introduced an altogether more refined driving experience. It was a runaway success and today remains the most popular mid-size pickup amongst our audience, and for good reason. Executive Publisher Scott Brady states, “The Tacoma has been the benchmark of compact overland trucks since its introduction … Overland Journal has owned a Gen 1 and Gen 3, and we have driven Tacomas from the Arctic Ocean to the Darién Gap in Panama … the Tacoma is an exceptional vehicle, and one deserving of the Toyota legacy.” The third gen is the best-selling and most proven to date, with the TRD Off Road variant delivering class-leading backcountry performance out of the box. Cue today’s 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road (143,000 miles chassis/24,000 miles on replacement engine), which boasts premium modifications, a full camping setup, and is topped with an iKamper rooftop tent. The specifications for this build are remarkable considering its modest footprint; highlights include a 460-amp-hour lithium house battery system supported by 700 watts of solar, 14 gallons of freshwater with multistage filtration and on-demand heating, a fully equipped kitchen, a 23ZERO outdoor shower and bathroom enclosure, and much more. At $55,900, this package represents an impressive value, especially since it boasts more than $129,000 in upgrades (receipts included with sale). Finally, this is not a proof of concept but an extensively proven vehicle (as documented on the Chateau Tacoma Instagram) that’s turnkey-ready for your next adventure.

Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road From the Seller:

This Tacoma has been meticulously built for multi‑day, extreme backcountry travel and is, in my experience, the best overland-ready Tacoma I’ve ever come across. It has safely and comfortably taken my wife and me from Canada to Baja, Mexico, handling everything from black‑diamond trails to long, remote highway stretches with ease. It’s an absolute dream to drive. Selling this truck has been a difficult decision. Due to life changes, I haven’t been able to take it on a trip in over a year. It’s been stored properly and driven weekly to keep everything in top condition.”
