Toyota Land Cruiser 200

Many consider the Land Cruiser of any iteration to be a pinnacle overland vehicle, and the 200 Series is no exception. When Expeditions 7 visited Japan to collect the 70 Series vehicles for their around-the-world trip, the lead Land Cruiser engineer challenged their choice on the grounds that the 200 Series was the toughest generation the company had ever built. It has since become an overlanding figurehead and the vehicle of choice for frontline governmental agencies and NGOs around the world. The 200 Series demonstrates that rugged backcountry dependability and plush interior comfort are not mutually exclusive and can exist in harmony. This is a vehicle that can do it all; during the week it’s a luxurious daily driver and practical workhorse and at the weekends a 4WD icon that will provide access to even the most scenic off-grid camp spots.

It was for these reasons and more that I considered this model before purchasing my Troopy, and what struck me was that even high mileage examples commanded impressive pricesa testament to their desirability. Automotive hall of famer and former Top Gear presenter Chris Harris runs one as his daily driver and states, “It’s built to withstand daily abuse in a way no other car I’ve ever seen is…more like a commercial vehicle when you look at the chassis, the engine, and the way it can be maintained.” Aftermarket support for this model is excellent, which means there’s no shortage of inspiring overland builds online, including drool-worthy offerings from Equipt Outfitters, Nomad Outfitters, and Tactical Application Vehicles. Cue today’s low-mileage 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series (84,452 miles), which has been meticulously maintained and showcases an array of premium modifications. If you’d like to learn more about upfitting this platform for travel then listen to Land Cruiser Expert and off-road driving expert Kurt Williams on the Overland Journal podcast: Principles of Overlanding :: Land Cruiser 200 Series.

From the Seller:

We purchased the truck in October 2022 Toyota Certified Pre-Owned at 55,811 miles. As of today, post-detailing, it sits at 84,452 miles. This number will change slightly if I need to run an errand, but we are attempting to keep the rig off the road until the sale. The truck served excellent duty on mini-expeditions throughout Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, crushed the travel soccer circuit, and made light work of chasing powder dumps through the winter. Over the course of our ownership, I’ve been thoughtful about any modifications to allow for flexibility in future design. It is ready to continue service as a bulletproof, reliable machine or go farther afield on more adventures. All services under our ownership were completed every 5,000 miles at Toyota of Bozeman.”
