There’s no shortage of suitable vehicles for overlanding on the market, but when it comes to traveling around the world, Toyotas are hard to beat. Sure, they’re not always the most powerful or luxurious, but they are incredibly reliable and built to last. I’ve owned my Vanagon Syncro for over a decade, and I’m lucky to get a few months without an issue, but since acquiring a Toyota Troopy, my only outgoings have been fuel and basic service items. To this end, cue today’s super low-mileage 1999 Toyota Dyna (9,320 miles) 4WD, which would serve as the perfect blank canvas for a full overland build-out. At $21,000, this is a lot of bang for your buck, and thanks to its 2-ton payload, it’s ideally suited to a camper or habitation box. Dynas are a rarity, but a quick online search reveals they have something of a cult following with inspiring adventure-equipped builds from the likes of Pacific Coast Auto and Softroading The West. From the Seller:
“I’m selling my 1999 Toyota Quad Cab Dyna 150, which started life as a fire engine and has just 9,320 original miles. It boasts a 3.0-liter diesel engine (same as HiLux) with the 5-speed manual transmission and 4WD on the fly with manual hubs. The Dyna has an available 2-ton payload and a towing capacity of up to 3,960 pounds. It is quite nimble thanks to favorable gearing and can comfortably cruise at 75 mph. This is a peppy truck to cruise around in, and it turns on a dime and turns heads. I’ve modified the fire body to return to a pick-up-style bed with some cool additions. There is no rust anywhere; this is a clean truck.”

Inside, the interior is intentionally utilitarian but does incorporate the following driver comforts:

- Air-conditioning
Distinguishing Features
- Patagonia A/T tires
