The Toyota 4Runner remains a pinnacle platform for overland travel with the 5th gen being the best-selling to date (selling as many units as the 1st, 2nd, and 4th generations combined). World traveler and Overland Journal Publisher Scott Brady states, “The 4Runner is both honest and capable at the same time, yet somehow achieves a youthful and exciting image with buyers. I believe that most of this comes from the genuine capability of the vehicle. It is not a pretender, but a model you can buy new, leave stock, and drive around the world.” This venerable body-on-frame SUV is underpinned by the legendary international Prado 150 chassis, which is depended on around the world by frontline agencies for its bulletproof durability and class-leading payload. It’s undoubtedly one of the most popular 4WDs on the Expedition Portal forum and was recently featured in Top Ten New Overland SUVs on the Overland Journal podcast. Cue today’s one-owner 2015 Toyota 4Runner Trail, which has covered 155,000 miles and showcases a wide array of top-tier upgrades. Automotive expert Chris Cordes field tested the Trail Edition for Expedition Portal and concluded, “I’ve driven my fair share of vehicles off-road, and I can say that the 4Runner is one of the easiest and most comfortable yet.” It’s a vehicle depended on for epic overland trips both at home and abroad, with epic 5th-gen adventures shared by Expedition Overland, Made to Schnade, Equipt Expedition Outfitters, and Lifestyle Overland. If you’re looking for a do-it-all vehicle to explore the US and beyond in 2025, then look no further.
From the Seller:
“In 2013 I learned the FJ Cruiser was being discontinued by Toyota. I was concerned that parts might become scarce. Some of my friends were selling their FJ’s and buying 4Runner Trail Editions, so I eventually decided to do the same and purchased mine in January 2015. I immediately began upgrading with overlanding as my main goal. During the following years, we spent a lot of time traveling, mostly in the Southwest but also several long trips to Baja and one to the Copper Canyon in Mexico. The rig was absolutely reliable and never let me down. I often told people they would probably bury me in the rig. However, wedge campers caught my attention so I made the tough decision to sell the 4Runner and move to a Tacoma with a camper.”
