4Runner V8

The Toyota 4Runner of any iteration is a pinnacle overland vehicle; recent adventure-equipped offerings include this 2000 Limited, 2007 Sport, and 2015 Trail w/ Alu Cab Gen 3.1. However, for many, the fourth generation is especially desirable since it was the first to be offered with a V8 motor. The engine in question was the legendary 4.7-liter 2UZ-FE used in a wide range of iconic Lexus and Toyota 4WDs. It’s a favorite with the Overland Collective team and was the first test vehicle ever loaned to Expedition Portal (and played a role in inspiring the Overland Journal magazine). Cue today’s 2005 Toyota 4Runner Sport (148,000 miles), which would serve as the ideal blank canvas for a full overland buildout and is priced at just $13,000. That’s a lot of bang for your buck, especially since this example boasts the V8 motor and has been meticulously maintained. If you’d like a better understanding of how the fourth-gen 4Runner can be outfitted for exploration, check out inspiring builds from The Adventure Index, Garrett Logan, and Trail Runner Customs.

From the Seller:

“A clean, stock V8 4Runner. I’ve replaced the brakes (front and rear), alternator, radiator hoses, fan clutch, serpentine belt, fluids, coolant, headlight bulbs, wiper blades, and changed the oil every 5,000 miles since I’ve owned it. With the exception of the alternator going out, it’s been very reliable. It has a trailer brake controller installed. More pictures and/or info upon request.”
