Equipt’s 2013 Toyota 200 Series Land Cruiser :: Featured Classified

200 series land cruiser

Be still my beating heart—it’s none other than Paul May’s (owner Equipt Expedition Outfitters) 200-Series Land Cruiser (featured on Expedition Portal by Ashley Giordano). Land Cruisers of any iteration are considered pinnacle overland vehicles, but for many, the 200 Series is regarded as the best of breed. In fact, when Publisher Scott Brady and Greg Miller traveled to Japan to collect the vehicles for Expeditions 7, the lead Toyota Land Cruiser engineer questioned their vehicle choice. He appreciated the merits of the 70 Series but explained that from an engineering perspective, the 200 Series was the strongest Land Cruiser the company had made to date. Words echoed by British automotive journalist, racing driver, and television producer Chris Harris, who stated, “It’s built to withstand daily abuse in a way no other car I’ve ever seen is . . . more like a commercial vehicle when you look at the chassis, the engine, and the way it can be maintained.” Today’s 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser is barely broken in at 130,600 miles and showcases industry-leading parts and accessories. Further still, it was meticulously built by an industry expert who understands these vehicles inside and out. At $44,900, this has to be one of the best value turnkey rigs we’ve ever showcased. From the Seller:

“Hell has officially frozen over. Here is the proof! I am putting my beloved 2013 Toyota 200-Series Land Cruiser up for sale. I have owned this truck for 8 years, and it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. I built it to be capable of taking me anywhere on this planet. I’m a Land Cruiser guy, through and through. Twenty-five years in the TLCA [Toyota Land Cruiser Association]. I owned a 100-Series Land Cruiser for a dozen years, and it was the show truck for Equipt for the first seven years of the company. The 200-Series Land Cruiser was a logical next step in our evolution. Years ago, I was told by the Toyota Motor Corp 200-Series Land Cruiser lead engineer that the 200 was the strongest Land Cruiser they had ever built. I believe him. It’s as solid a vehicle as I have ever driven. Power, elegance, ride quality, and toughness you will not find elsewhere in an SUV. If I were to outfit another 200 Series, I can’t think of a single thing I would do differently. Everything has a purpose and a place. It is elegantly uncomplicated and performs flawlessly. With the addition of the 25-gallon auxiliary fuel tank, you have a range of over 600 miles.”

No money in the bank, but gas in the tank. Our resident Bikepacking Editor Jack Mac is an exploration photographer and writer living full-time in his 1986 Vanagon Syncro but spends most days at the garage pondering why he didn’t buy a Land Cruiser Troopy. If he’s not watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, he can be found mountaineering for Berghaus, sea kayaking for Prijon, or bikepacking for Surly Bikes. Jack most recently spent two years on various assignments in the Arctic Circle but is now back in the UK preparing for his upcoming expeditions—looking at Land Cruisers.
