The Ram AEV (“American Expedition Vehicles”) Prospector has been coined the “North American Unimog,” and is a pinnacle choice for overlanding, as discussed on the Overland Journal podcast. Automotive expert and contributor Christophe Noel states, “Like everything AEV builds, the Prospector is refined, perfectly executed, and represents the best possible version of a Ram truck. The AEV components mesh with the OEM product perfectly. It is not only a striking truck to behold, it performs flawlessly. For those overlanders wanting a platform they can use to tow or portage heavy loads, while not sacrificing off-road performance, it has no apparent rival. Fitted with a slide-in camper the Prospector would be a capable traveler, undaunted by the ugliest terrain.” In all regards, it has been engineered for overlanding and is one of a select few modern trucks that I’d consider for my primary travel rig. With this in mind, cue today’s 2017 Ram Prospector XL (82,000 miles), which boasts the coveted Cummins diesel motor, a plethora of premium AEV upgrades, and is topped with a well appointed Four Wheel Campers Hawk. If that wasn’t enough, this rig was previously Rockford Fosgate’s 2017 SEMA build, which means it’s been upfitted with the ultimate no expense spared audio system (see original listing for details). Needless to say, at $90,000 this turnkey full size package represents impressive value when you consider that a new PXL will set you back the best part of $150,000 before you make any upgrades or add a camper. So, if you’re in the market for a pinnacle expedition ready rig for domestic and international travel, look no further.
From the Seller:
“This build was the evolution of 8 years of a growing love of accessing locations others can’t. The Four Wheel Campers Hawk was bought new in 2018 and originally installed on a 2017 Tundra. Realizing that wasn’t the right truck, I ordered an F-250 Tremor when Ford announced them in 2019. Unfortunately, after 6 months, I was in an accident that totaled the truck (luckily the camper was not onboard). 2020 (Covid) was a bad time to buy a new truck, but as luck would have it, this beautiful and capable Prospector XL was being sold by a gentleman who got it directly from Rockford Fosgate (it was their 2017 SEMA build). That was on a Wednesday, by Saturday I had flown to Phoenix to drive the truck back to Oregon. I now have my dream build, which has since taken me all over the west. It is a big truck but it will get you there. It handled the Lippincott Pass in Death Valley without an issue. The interior makes the miles comfortable, the capability makes the trails easier and attainable, and the sound system makes everything better. We are parting with this setup as my wife and I have decided to go with a flatbed FWC on a 2022 Prospector XL 3500 as part of our retirement plan.”
