Nissan NV 3500 overland camper

Today’s low-mileage 2020 Nissan NV 3500 4×4 (44,000 miles) has to be one of the most unique and dialed rigs we’ve featured. It caught my eye on the forum, and after reading more, I quickly realized that this platform is totally underappreciated for overlanding. Firstly, the NV 3500 benefits from a body-on-frame architecture and is underpinned by the same heavy-duty F-Alpha chassis (albeit modified) utilized by the full-size Nissan Titan pickup. It shares a similar powertrain (including the desirable 5.6-liter V8) and, in all respects, is engineered to meet the rigors of commercial applications (not to mention incorporating legendary Japanese build quality and reliability). In addition, it provides up to a 3,850-pound payload (and a 9,400-pound max towing capacity), which ensures plenty of capacity for a camper conversion, equipment, and passengers. A quick internet search revealed that the Nissan has something of a cult following online, with drool-worthy expedition builds showcased by WeldTec Designs and TFL Offroad. Today’s NV is no exception and was painstakingly built by Rogue Overland. I highly recommend watching the video linked below, which deep dives into each modification and showcases the many desirable traits of this platform for overland travel. At $74,999, this vehicle represents an impressive value when you consider the cost of the upgrades (4WD conversion alone was upwards of $10,000) and that it’s half the cost of a comparable Mercedes Sprinter build despite offering notable advantages.

From the Seller:

Don’t miss your chance to own this amazing adventure vehicle. Mechanically sound, there are small signs of use on the interior and a few light pinstripes on the exterior. The paint is in great shape as this vehicle is kept in a climate-controlled garage and waxed routinely. Coming from a rock-crawling background, this Nissan had to be capable off-road but also comfortable to live inside when camping in the backcountry. We chose the NV 3500 platform because it has the pedigree of a truck and the livability of a van. We love the functionality of this rig. One weekend, we can use the adventure van to explore Death Valley, and the next month, live out of it exploring Alaska, and another time, use it to tow dirt bikes to the motocross track. It turns heads and gets a thumbs-up wherever it goes.”

2020 Nissan NV 3500 4×4

The Nissan NV 3500 is fitted with a 5.6-liter V8 that produces 375 horsepower and 387 pound-feet of torque. A powerful and long-lived motor is matched with impressive capability thanks to an Advanced 4WD Vans conversion. This uprates the Nissan with a heavy-duty 4WD system, high and low range, lower gearing, armor, an uprated and lifted suspension, and an ARB front locker. These rugged backcountry attributes are balanced with a well-equipped interior with driver comforts that include:

  • Power steering, windows, locks, and mirrors
  • Cruise control
  • Air-conditioning
  • Infotainment system with navigation
  • Cupholders
  • Captain’s chairs
