2001 Mitsubishi Montero :: Classifieds

Mitsubishi Montero

The Montero is a favorite on the forum; recent adventure-outfitted offerings include this 1991, 2001, and 2006. Mitsubishi, like many other Japanese manufacturers, has forged a reputation for excellence, but due to Toyota’s dominance in the segment, many of its 4WDs remain underappreciated. To this end, cue today’s 2001 Mitsubishi Montero (132,000 miles), which would serve as the ideal blank canvas for a full overland buildout, and is priced at just $7,000. This example has been meticulously maintained with a timing belt, various gaskets, thermostat housing, rebuilt cluster, overhauled brakes, and more (see the original listing for full details). The Montero has something of a cult following with drool-worthy builds showcased online by the likes of Gondirtin, 04Lo, and Montana Montero. So, if you’re searching for fabled Japanese build quality and reliability on a budget, this could be a great option.

Mitsubishi MonteroFrom the Seller:

I have a beautiful Montero for sale and would like to put it in front of people who understand the platform. I own a 2005 Montero with 225,000 miles, and currently it’s my wife’s daily driver. My intention was to buy her this one with 100,000 fewer miles and start a new build on a ‘better’ canvas. I brought it home, she said it was beautiful, but was not interested in getting rid of her 2005. So here I am with an extra Montero in the driveway and no one to love it the way it should be loved. I attacked any and all maintenance on this one as much as I could. So with it being such a good example of the Montero platform, I really think someone here will do it justice and maybe even post a build thread, which would be amazing.
