The Mercedes Sprinter is the darling of the commercial sector and is internationally ubiquitous. The success of this platform is no coincidence but rather a reflection of its reputation for excellence, with each iteration capable of a half-million-mile service life with routine maintenance. The 2WD variant has long been a figurehead of the vanlife movement, but in more recent years, the 4WD model has become a favorite within the overlanding community, and for good reason. From the factory, it’s well-appointed for around-the-world travel thanks to an intelligent AWD system, a lifted and uprated suspension, armor, and intelligent onboard assists. Its growing popularity within the segment has also captured the imagination of the aftermarket, with a huge array of parts, accessories, and services available to uprate this platform for exploration. Cue today’s meticulously maintained 2018 Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 (70,xxx miles), which was optioned out from the factory (including the $7,570 Low & High Range 4×4 Package) and was originally built at great expense by Sync Van. It recently returned to Sync Van, where it underwent the best part of $30,000 in upgrades and routine maintenance. I see numerous outfitted Sprinters on the Expedition Portal forum, but this is one of my favorites to date since it seamlessly balances amenities/comforts with a flexible modular design. With its smart floor, you can reposition the three rear seats or remove them entirely; similarly, the bed platform is easily removed if desired, and there’s even a fold-away top bunk. I’ve lived on the road for more than a decade, and in my experience, the best interiors are modular and adaptable, since you never know when you’ll need more space for extra equipment, guests, or need to utilize the vehicle for daily chores or work. So, if you’re looking for a do-it-all rig that’s just as useful as a practical daily/family wagon as it is to drive around the world, look no further.

From the Seller:
“We are the second owners and purchased the van in Utah in late 2023 from the original owner. The van was originally outfitted by Sync Van in Idaho in 2019. After purchase, we drove it back to Sync, where they serviced all the existing systems and added about $30,000 in upgrades. We have three kids and have the van configured with individual jump seats for each child, and an extra jump seat we can put in the van when needed. Last year, we had a local shop replace the factory diesel tank with a 47-gallon extended-range diesel tank, so it provides over 500 miles per tank. The rear bed slides out and creates a queen-/king-size bed. The original owner built an elevated/hanging bunk; we don’t use this, but it’s included. The smart floor makes moving the seats around or removing them altogether easy. I have the Mercedes build spec when the van was purchased new in 2018/2019. I also have the original Sync Van build PDF and the upgrades they did for us in early 2024. We completed the 60,000-mile Sprinter service, and everything mechanical is working great.”
