The Land Rover Series I, II, and III are iconic and have played a pivotal role in forging vehicle-based adventure travel, aka overlanding, as we know it. Many of the most legendary around-the-world expeditions have been enjoyed from behind the wheel of a Land Rover, and for many enthusiasts, the Series remains the best of the breed. I’ve had a soft spot for the Series since listening to the adventures of the Hyland family on the Overland Journal Podcast. Ray and Marianne drove more than 16,000 miles with their three children from London to Singapore in an unrestored 62-year-old Land Rover Series I they bought for just $225 (a testament to the robustness of the platform). The Series II continued its predecessor’s legacy but introduced key improvements such as a wider chassis, more powerful and reliable motors, and key styling changes. It was a vast improvement and, with some modern upgrades, remains a great choice for adventure today. With this in mind, today’s 1969 Land Rover Series IIA retains the classic charm and desirable factory attributes while addressing the model’s shortcomings. Upgrades include an East Coast Rover (ECR) coil spring conversion, a Turner 2.25-liter engine, and a plethora of top-tier aftermarket parts. In addition, this already capable vehicle has been further modified for off-grid travel with the addition of front and rear lockers and includes both a hard and soft top (2) for all-season adventures. From the Seller:
“Embark on a journey back in time with this meticulously restored 1969 Land Rover Series IIA 88. This left-hand-drive gem has undergone a comprehensive East Coast Rover rebuild, integrating a coil spring conversion to infuse modern resilience into its historic charm. It stands as a testament to a legacy of exploration, now searching for its next steward. With approximately 14,000 miles clocked since its last touch by ECR in 2008 and 26,000 since the rebuild in 1998, this Land Rover is not just a vehicle, but a trustworthy companion for the trails less traveled.”
