The F-250 is one of the most popular full-size pickups for overlanding, and for good reason. The F-Series lineup has been the best-selling truck in the US for half a century, and during that time, it remained in a constant state of evolution. As a result, each iteration has set the benchmark within the segment, with the F-250 Tremor being awarded Editor’s Choice in Overland Journal’s Full-Size Truck of the Year [2022]. From the factory, the F-250 is engineered for commercial applications with a fully boxed, high-strength ladder frame, a heavy-duty 4WD system, solid axles, a powerful V8 diesel, and a considerable payload and towing capacity. Further still, it can be optioned with backcountry-focused add-ons, such as the FX4 Package. This elevates the already capable F-250 with uprated suspension calibrated for rugged terrain, a rear locking differential, bolstered armor, and intelligent onboard assists such as Hill Descent Control and AdvanceTrac. To this end, cue today’s meticulously maintained, one-owner (always garaged), 2015 Ford-250 (206,000 miles), which was optioned with the Power Stroke diesel motor, FX4 Package, and Lariat trim from the dealership, and has since been uprated with a plethora of premium modifications and topped with a fully equipped Four Wheel Campers’ Hawk. I’m fortunate to see many incredible builds working for the Overland Collective, but the ones that impress me most are those that have been built with intention, and this is a great example. The upgrades to the F-250 are not gratuitous but instead carefully selected to elevate overland performance where it matters, while the Four Wheel Camper’s Hawk provides everything you need to enjoy four-season travel without excessive size or bulk. If you’re looking for a proven full-size rig for both domestic and international travel, then this would serve as a great option.

From the Seller:
“As I neared retirement, I wanted to do more overlanding, but in a way that would be fun with my off-roading mates and also suited for just me and my lovely wife. The first decision was to go with a Four Wheel Camper. It is rugged and can be configured with everything you might want. In addition, they are low-profile for easy long-haul travel when not overlanding. We decided that the Hawk model was the right size and configuration for us. The next decision was a truck. We wanted something with the payload and power to easily handle a fully loaded FWC Hawk. That meant we wanted a ‘real’ truck and decided on the F-250. The Lariat trim meant the interior was finished in leather and incredibly quiet and comfortable. The diesel option meant we would have plenty of horsepower and torque for both dirt tracks and the highway. Finally, we wanted to ensure that overlanding would be not only comfortable but also safe. Thus, we got an ARB locking front differential, an ARB front bumper and Warn winch, Firestone air springs, and an Aluminess rear bumper with two swing arms (second spare, storage box). We have used every one of these features at some point over the last 10 years. This rig has been great for traveling I-80 at speed with no effort or crawling hundreds of miles of remote Nevada dirt tracks. We are only selling because, as I turn 80, we have decided to move to a small trailer for our outdoor adventures.”
