Chevrolet CUCV M1010

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of veteran overland vehicles with recent offerings including this 1969 Land Rover Forward Control 2B, 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62, and 1993 Ford F-250 with a 1973 Alaskan Camper. Sure, there are negatives to classic motoring, but there are many positives. First and foremost, they’re cool as heck, which is ideal since you’ll have plenty of time to admire them when broken down on the hard shoulder (they’re also amazing on fuel in these stationary scenarios). Jokes aside, older vehicles have key advantages over their modern counterparts, especially when it comes to backcountry exploration. These include field serviceable mechanicals, minimal electrics, simple and durable suspension components, and much more. With this in mind, cue today’s low-mileage 1984 Chevrolet CUCV M101 ambulance (15,000 miles), which has been “built not bought” (as documented on this forum thread) with an array of desirable parts and accessories. This is a great base for a full overland build-out and would make for a truly unique heavy-duty adventure vehicle for the upcoming summer season.

From the Seller:

“The reason for selling is that my health is not allowing me to complete this project. I was building it as a very reliable and capable rig for overland traveling. A few things worth mentioning are that the roof raise needs sealing up (there’s no leaking, but it’s not ready for driving in the rain), and there’s a slow drip on the transfer case. I do have some extras available for purchase.”

The CUCV is fitted with a 6.2-liter engine that produces 115 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. A V8 motor is matched with excellent capability thanks to 4WD, high and low range, heavy-duty axles, armor, and a rear Detroit locker. Inside, these rugged backcountry features are balanced with a function-first interior with basic driver comforts that include:
