BMW Motorrad Days Americas

BMW will host the first BMW Motorrad Days Americas during the Barber Vintage Festival in Leeds, Alabama, from October 6-8 this year. Join them to celebrate BMW’s first century of motorcycle manufacturing.

BMW Centenary

It’s been a 101 years since BMW chief designer Max Friz put the first full-scale BMW motorcycle on the drawing board. His R 32 debuted in September 1923 at the German Motor Show in Berlin. It featured a 494cc, 8.5 hp, air-cooled two-cylinder, four-stroke boxer engine. Sound familiar? BMW motorcycles engines have come a long way on a 100 year old design, and show no sign of slowing down.

First Motorrad Days in USA

For the past 15 years, thousands of fans from around the world have traveled to Germany to celebrate BMW Motorrad Days. This past July they estimate 37,000 visitors attended the celebration in Berlin. For the 2013 centenary, Motorrad Days will be held in the USA so fans from all over the Americas can gather to celebrate.

Barber Motorsports Venue

BMW will hold their event at the Barber Motorsports Park, home of the Barber Museum and racetrack. “We are so very excited to have the opportunity to celebrate our 100 year anniversary with our friends at the Barber Motorsports Park.” said Luciana Francisco, Head of Marketing and Product, BMW Motorrad USA. “After all, you only get to celebrate such a significant milestone once and you have to do it right. There is no better event than the Barber Vintage Festival to co-host the first ever BMW Motorrad Days Americas.”

Plenty to Do and See

Judging by the list of planned activities, no one will be bored at BMW’s celebration. The BMW Performance Center will lead off-road demo rides in addition to standard demo rides. And don’t miss the chance to try the CE 04 electric bike. Stunt shows are planned and there will be an opportunity to ride on the track (requires registration). No motorcycle get-together is complete without vendor displays. Find them in the Fun Zone. It’s also the location for food trucks, a beer garden, live music, fun for the kids, and more.

As Long as You’re There…

Don’t overlook the Vintage Festival for complete motorcycle immersion. Motorrad Days attendees can take 20% off tickets to see the historic displays, visit the paddocks to meet racers, and take even more demo rides. More than 65,000 motorcycle fans attend each year, creating plenty of  opportunities to make new friends.

Arden’s first motorcycle was a Yamaha Enduro, obtained while in high school. It set the stage for decades of off-pavement exploration on dual-sports and adventure bikes. Camping in the middle of nowhere became his favorite pursuit. As a former whitewater river guide and National Park Service seasonal employee, Arden believes in wilderness, wildlife, and being kind to the earth. A self-taught writer who barely passed English classes, he has contributed adventure stories and tested motorcycles and accessories for Rider Magazine and other outlets for nearly 30 years. In that time, he’s worn out two KLR 650s and is currently following the road to the middle of nowhere on his Ténéré 700 and an aging but reliable DR-Z 400S.
