BMW GS Trophy 2024 Goes to Namibia

The eighth running of the BMW International GS Trophy event takes place in Namibia this fall, with the riders aboard special R 1300 GS machines. BMW Motorrad is adding a host of extras to their R 1300 Style GS Trophy model, starting with the optional Enduro Package. The competitors will enjoy handguard extensions, handlebar risers, enduro levers, GS Vario footpegs, and adjustable levers for navigating the Namibian landscape. In addition, there are skid plates and engine protection to keep the soft parts safe, and new frame guards to absorb crash impacts. The official tires of the contest are Metzeler Karoo 4s.

GS Trophy Namibia

The September 15-20, 2024, event brings 60 riders from 22 national teams to Namibia. There are 16 men’s teams and 6 for the women. Africa also hosted the first Trophy contest in 2010, which was shared among South Africa, Mozambique, and Swaziland. That premier event had just 10 teams from 13 countries, and was an all-male affair. The ladies were first invited to show their mettle on motos in 2016. Held every two years in a different venue, the event continues to grow.

Sadly, the deluxe competition machines won’t be available to the public. However, BMW can certainly outfit you with an R 1300 GS Style GS Trophy motorcycle. Throw in the Enduro package, add some stickers, and it becomes the foundation for building your own replica.

Per BMW, “The Racing Blue metallic color says it all: with its red and white stripes and lettering, combined with the matte white metallic painted rear frame, the R 1300 GS Style GS Trophy literally whets the appetite for sporty off-road riding.” In addition, the Style model also includes radiator guards and black cross-spoke wheels. Need more bling? Opt for the gold wheels.

Course Marshals Get a Nice Ride

Of course, someone has to keep the peace with 60 big machines blasting across the Namibian sands. In this case it’s the GS Trophy Marshal Team, mounted on custom BMW F 900 GS Trophy Marshal Bikes. Topping the company’s mid-size adventure line, the 900 has a claimed 105 horsepower and 22 pounds less weight than the previous model. With these nimble machines the Marshals will be ready to kick up the dust and lay down the law.
