Bliss Mobil’s reputation spans the globe—much like their expedition campers, which can be found in some of the most remote corners of the planet. What many may not realize, however, is that it’s possible to commission a Bliss Mobil unit built to your exact specifications in Europe and have it mounted to a vehicle here in the United States, at Bliss Mobil USA’s headquarters in Longmont, Colorado. The build featured here is a perfect example: a Bliss Mobil module fitted to a 1994 Unimog U-2450, meticulously refurbished and customized by Rob Pickering of Terry Lee Enterprises in La Junta, Colorado. The chassis has been extensively upgraded for world travel, featuring beadlock wheels, a central tire inflation system (CTIS), cab air conditioning, a roof rack, and front- and rear-mounted winches, all supported by auxiliary off-road lighting.

The client’s choice of the Unimog platform reflects a commitment to global, go-anywhere capability—resulting in a machine that’s as tough on the outside as it is refined within.
It all begins with Bliss Mobil’s 13-foot High Bed Type 4 module, engineered to deliver maximum comfort and functionality within a compact, expedition-ready footprint. The design reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to creating independent, modular living systems for overland travel, combining intelligent use of space with robust construction and a high level of self-sufficiency.

At the heart of the Type 4 layout is an electronically controlled drop-down bed measuring 1400 × 2000 millimeters, positioned above the main seating area. Operated via an electronic control system, the bed can be smoothly lowered, raised, and leveled, allowing for adaptable sleeping arrangements. Beneath it, a U-shaped couch serves as the primary lounge area. It can also be converted into an additional sleeping surface, bringing the total sleeping capacity to up to four people.

A defining feature of this 13-foot model is its full wet bathroom, located at the rear of the module. The bathroom is fitted with a yachting-grade ceramic toilet, waterproof cabinetry, and a dedicated ventilation system, ensuring comfort even in humid or high-elevation environments. A roof hatch promotes natural airflow, while a high-quality glass door separates the lavatory and shower areas, maintaining both practicality and elegance.
The integration of the lavatory and shower into a single space frees up valuable interior volume, enabling Bliss Mobil to increase storage capacity in the kitchen. Here, travelers will find a large cabinet that can accommodate an optional washing machine—a feature rarely seen in a camper of this size.

The kitchen itself is positioned at the center of the module, directly opposite the entrance door and adjacent to the seating area. It features a Fenix countertop, known for its durability and matte finish, and is equipped with a variety of storage options. Appliances include a microwave oven with grill function, two induction cooktops, and an integrated range hood. Bliss Mobil also offers a complete optional kitchen set, which includes cookware, utensils, plates, and glassware—allowing travelers to outfit the unit for immediate use.

Given the comprehensive amenities within the living space, the garage capacity of the 13-foot High Bed Type 4 is necessarily limited. To offset this, Bliss Mobil provides a range of external storage solutions, including modular boxes that can be mounted on the unit’s subframe, as well as larger containers designed to attach to the rear of the module. These external options enhance the vehicle’s versatility, allowing it to accommodate gear, tools, and expedition equipment.

The model, listed under product code Z1398, adheres to Bliss Mobil’s signature engineering standards, which emphasize containerized construction, energy independence, abundant water storage, safety, and resilience in extreme conditions. Like all Bliss Mobil products, the design is modular and self-sufficient, engineered to integrate with a variety of chassis configurations and to perform reliably in remote and challenging environments.

This latest configuration delivers an optimal balance between living comfort, spatial efficiency, and field durability, making it particularly well-suited for travelers who demand both luxury and resilience in their overland vehicles. When combined with a capable platform such as the Unimog U-2450, the result is a self-contained, world-traveling home that embodies the essence of modern expedition living—a perfect harmony between rugged engineering and refined design.
