There are few overland accessories that are as iconic as the ARB bull bar, which serves to protect the cooling system and sheet metal from animal strikes and light trail damage. They also do a lot to improve the appearance of most modern vehicles, giving stronger lines and that Outback look. The bumper also allows fitment of the 12-volt electric winch and a suite of lights and antenna. For 2021, ARB has announced their Summit bumper for the new Ram 1500. The Ram 1500 has become an increasingly popular platform, particularly with the diesel engine. We even had a staff project building one up a few years ago. Bruce Dorn’s Project EcoDiesel Ram 1500
With the growing popularity of the Australian converted Dodge Ram 1500, ARB’s engineers have designed and developed a Summit Winch bar for that model, which also benefits the North American market. Due to the size of the vehicle and its ability to tow up to 4.5 tons (subject to vehicle specification) the 2009-2018 ARB Ram 1500 bull bar has been designed to suit 12,000-pound winches. To accommodate the larger winch sizes the lower pan of the Ram 1500 bar is a different profile to other Summit bars and features additional bracing to achieve the higher winch loads. Testing has been conducted via FEA simulations, testing with ARB’s 30T press and fitted bar, and winch testing with ARB’s load cell to ensure that the bar assembly, chassis mounts and chassis perform as expected under winch load conditions. The Ram 1500 is also getting ARB’s OME suspension system, which includes a wide range of spring rates to match the user’s load requirements. While it does not increase payload, it does reduce or prevent sagging, and allows for a matched spring rate to the weight of a bull bar and winch. Ride height also increases depending on the rate selected and load applied.
The Nitrocharger Sport range utilizes significant advances in key componentry and the latest in valving technology to provide tremendous improvements in ride, comfort, and handling over all terrains. Vehicle-specific valving ensures the proper valving is matched to your spring selection, accessory fitment and load carrying requirements, meaning there’s a Nitrocharger Sport Shock Absorber to suit your needs, no matter what the terrain or intended vehicle use. Nitrocharger Sport Shock Absorbers offer the most cohesive, balanced, and finely tuned valving system on the market. Where the purpose of a spring is to carry the load of a vehicle and its cargo, a shock absorber works to control the spring by absorbing excess energy and, in doing so, has a profound impact on your vehicle’s ride and handling. During the development of OME’s Nitrocharger Sport Shock Absorbers, particular focus is placed on how well they are matched to the specific springs they’ll be controlling, with Ride Control Engineers tailoring shock absorber valving to work with the different springs in the range, often resulting in multiple shock absorber options for each vehicle. Whether it’s for work or play, ARB has a solution for just about any application. (Editor’s Note: This copy was provided as part of the ARB news release.)
