Airstream Launches Limited Edition Interstate 19X LE Outland Touring Coach

The limited edition Airstream Interstate 19X LE Outland Touring Coach recently launched at Overland Expo Mountain West and seems geared towards the younger generation with fun on the mind. Only 30 units of the Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition (an expanded version of the Airstream Interstate 19X) will be manufactured, and the vehicle offers a blend of mildly rugged off-road capabilities and design enhancements that combine indoor and outdoor living.

The Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition features 18-inch wheels and is powered by a Mercedes-Benz 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine. The exterior is fortified with a protective body coating that wraps around the base and extends over the hood. For those who want to pay homage to Airstream’s classic aesthetic, a metallic vinyl rivet wrap is available, mirroring the brand’s signature hand-riveted travel trailers. The suspension is the same as the standard Mercedes-Benz spec for the Interstate 19X layout; the front suspension is an independent system with a wishbone design and a stabilizer bar.  The rear suspension consists of a leaf spring system with a solid axle, offering durability and support for the vehicle’s weight and cargo.

One of the standout features of the Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition is its expansive outdoor living space, a hint that this vehicle is best suited, but not limited to, fair weather travel. The vehicle is fitted with a 270-degree Batwing awning designed to extend the living area beyond the confines of the coach. This L-shaped awning is made from durable 320-gram ripstop material, which provides ample shade and protection from the elements. Integrated LED lighting under the awning ensures a well-lit environment for nighttime activities.

Inside the Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition, Airstream has incorporated several convertible features to maximize space and functionality. A full-size platform bed with a removable headboard offers three positions, allowing users to sleep inside the coach or outside under the open sky. The bed frame includes a chair swing mount, providing additional seating options for relaxation. The bed platform can be moved forward within the vehicle to create more interior floor-to-ceiling storage space or removed entirely to transform the interior into a spacious, customizable living area. This flexibility is ideal for adventurers who need to adapt their living space to various activities and storage needs. The press release images hint at suitability for carrying a trail bike or similar adventure gear.

Airstream has not overlooked comfort and luxury in the design of the Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition. The cabin is adorned with custom-stitched jump seats and riveted aluminum trim in both the bathroom and galley, echoing Airstream’s signature design elements.

In the galley, the Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition is equipped with a Dometic CFX3-powered refrigerator on an articulating mount, allowing it to be accessed from outside the vehicle. The refrigerator can also be lifted out and carried closer to the campfire. For cooking, the galley includes a stowable induction cooktop that can be used indoors or swapped with a cutting board for outdoor use. The sink features a fold-down faucet with an integrated cover that stows securely, creating additional space for meal preparation or accommodating the forward-bed configuration. An exterior table mount at the rear curbside door provides a convenient workstation for cooking with the induction cooktop or preparing gear for the next adventure.

The Airstream design team clearly had the younger adventurer in mind, someone who might leave work on a Friday evening and drive to their favorite off-grid camping spot where they can set up while listening to some banging tunes, illuminating nature while the fire gets going and the toys are deployed for the next day’s adventures.

The vehicle comes equipped with a comprehensive front lighting system. This system includes three six-inch LED light bars mounted on the brush guard and two six-inch LED lights on the hood vent. The traditional fog lights have been replaced with off-road lights, ensuring clear visibility even in the most challenging conditions. Additionally, the undercarriage features multi-color LEDs, allowing owners to choose their “pool lights” to set the mood.

For audiophiles, the coach comes standard with a premium Sony DSX-GS80 digital media receiver, paired with four eight-inch REV Black V2 speakers and a 400-watt subwoofer, creating an immersive audio experience within the vehicle, and no doubt without. Interior lighting is curated with dimmable LED lights and separate RGB color-changing accent lights.

The standard  Interstate 19X starts at $217,900, so you can expect to add more than a few pennies for the Interstate 19X LE Outland Edition—party on Wayne.
