It’s arguably one of the most difficult drives in the world––the crossing of the Empty Quarter. This seemingly endless expanse of 400,000 square miles of hostile, unforgiving desert tests the mettle of even the most experienced drivers. In just a matter of days, Land Rover will attempt to set a new record time for crossing the Empty Quarter. To make the feat even more remarkable, they plan to do it in a standard Range Rover Sport.
With temps expected to reach well over 100 Fº, the 600 mile route will also have to navigate around some of the tallest sand dunes in the world, many towering over 800 feet. The driver will be Moi Torrallordona, a 47 year-old Spanish offroad racer with extensive experience in the Dakar Rally, including a top ten finish. The tentative start is set for November, 4th in Adda Wasir, Saudi Arabia. Few details have been released about the other preparations, or even the projected finish time. A more complete press release will be issued as Moi begins his journey.
