Full-size platforms offer significantly more power, refinement, and payload than their mid-size counterparts, making them arguably more versatile for travel. In the past, mid-size platforms countered these advantages with trail agility and lower running costs, but full-size pickups have been closing the gap with factory off-road packages and vastly improved efficiency. Executive Publisher Scott Brady states, “Travelers are finding the benefits of a slightly larger vehicle that is designed to carry heavy loads day in and day out. This is particularly true with full-size trucks, where a GMC Sierra gets better gas mileage than any mid-size truck, and a new Tacoma’s fuel consumption is nearly the same size as a first-generation Tundra. When we first started Overland Journal, the compact pickup was by far the most popular choice for overlanding, but that gap is quickly narrowing with full-size variants. The reason is simple—big trucks are more capable than ever before, and they have the payload to haul more than a few passengers and a basket of groceries.” Ford’s F-Series continues to set the benchmark, with its backcountry-optimized Tremor variant awarded Editor’s Choice in our Full-size Truck of the Year [2022]. From the factory, this model has been reimagined from the ground up to perform when the tarmac ends, with a wide array of desirable hardware and intelligent assists. To this end, cue today’s one-owner, optioned-out 2024 Ford F-350 (11,600 miles), which boasts the High Output Power Stroke diesel, the Lariat Ultimate trim, Black Appearance and Tremor Packages, and a transferable Assurant Vehicle Care 100,000-mile/10-year policy. This pinnacle platform served as the ideal foundation for a full overland build-out, which included desirable aftermarket upgrades, a Bowen Customs bed, and a fully equipped camper. At $168,000, this package represents impressive value and would cost more than $207,000 to recreate. So, if you’re in the market for a no-expense-spared, four-season-ready expedition rig to see the world, then look no further.

Ford F-350 overland From the Seller:

“This is a turnkey, four-season expedition rig that’s ready to go the day you pick it up. It’s built on a 2024 Ford F-350 with the High Output Power Stroke and has only ~11,600 miles. It’s mounted with a Bowen Customs bed and a composite camper built by Labyrinth Overland in Grand Junction, Colorado, on a Bison Overland shell. The camper is fully self-contained and runs without propane or a generator. You can remove it from the truck in ~20 minutes; it sits on Rieco-Titan electric jacks (with remote) and can then be used as a freestanding basecamp. Heat, hot water, power, lights, fridge, and cooking still work in ‘base camp’ mode. Inside, the cabinets are bamboo and Durapalm with exposed box joints. It has a queen cab-over bed and a lounge dinette with a Lagun table that converts into a second bed. The truck includes a 100,000-mile/10-year (expires 5/2035) transferable Assurant Vehicle Care policy covering the engine, transmission, transfer case, etc., with a $250 deductible. Total documented build cost exceeds $207,000. Clean title in hand. Inspections welcome for qualified buyers.”
