Mercedes Sprinter 4x4

Whenever I have issues with my overland vehicles, I’ve often pondered selling up and investing in a Sprinter 4×4. Living on the road full-time and traveling internationally, I’ve been fortunate to own, drive, and experience a multitude of rigs, but if I had to start over, the Sprinter 4×4, high-roof, MWB (144-inch) would be the obvious choice. This view is not unique, which is why this coveted platform is a figurehead of both the vanlife and overlanding communities. At its heart, the Sprinter is a commercial workhorse with its generous payload, impressive drivability and economy, class-leading build quality, and half-a-million-mile service life. The 4WD variant carries forward these desirable credentials but introduces a plethora of hardware and intelligent assists that transform all-terrain capability. It’s a winning formula that balances the versatility and interior living space of a van with the go-anywhere durability and capability of a 4WD. Further still, thanks to almost unparalleled aftermarket support, owners can completely reimagine the platform from the ground up with parts and accessories to suit their goals/objectives. In short, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more do-it-all travel companion, which is why it’s ubiquitous around the world (and supported by Mercedes’ fabled global network of dealerships and approved specialists). With this in mind, cue today’s 2018 Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 (69.045 miles), which boasts a plethora of top-tier modifications and a premium Sportsmobile conversion (which includes a fixed bathroom/shower). It also has a rare 3-belt rear bench, ideal for families and allowing the rig to serve as a practical daily driver when needed. If you’re not familiar with Sportsmobile, they curate no-expense-spared Sprinter conversions that cost ~$150,000 off the shelf and have a significant lead time from purchase to delivery. Consequently, at $75,000, this example represents impressive value and is turnkey-ready with no lead time.
