2019 EarthCruiser FX :: Featured Classified

Earthroamer FX

Expedition trucks are a fantastic choice for those who want to travel further for longer and mate backcountry capability with a luxurious habitat. Unlike the average overland build, which is restricted by payload to a week or so of amenities/supplies, an expedition build is underpinned by a heavy-duty truck chassis capable of supporting weeks of self-contained off-grid adventures. As someone who has lived on the road for the best part of 15 years, I can attest to the frustrations associated with limited power, water supply, heat, waste disposal, and minimal storage, and have looked on with envy at larger platforms that remove many of the compromises synonymous with living on the road. However, the term “expedition truck” is used a little loosely these days for any oversized vehicle with a large camper/habitat, and this is misplaced. This designation applies to a heavy-duty (ideally 4WD) truck chassis that was designed from the factory for rugged applications and engineered for when the tarmac ends. It should be field-serviceable and ubiquitous around the world to ensure parts, services, and community support are readily available. With this in mind, industry leader EarthCruiser chose the Mitsubishi Fuso FG 4×4 as its base vehicle, which is widely considered one of the most desirable chassis for expedition truck builds. It’s a true global chassis with impressive 4WD credentials and best-in-segment 30,000-kilometer service intervals. Cue today’s low-mileage 2019 EarthCruiser FX (35,000 miles), which boasts a plethora of desirable factory options and is turnkey ready for exploration. At $229,000 this package represents impressive value when you consider that new, this premier offering would’ve set you back over $500,000 and, for all intents and purposes, is barely run in.
