There’s no shortage of overland outfitters selling heavy-duty “expedition ready” trucks, but far fewer selling rigs built for around-the-world exploration. It’s one thing to build a vehicle fit for North America, but a very different challenge to curate a platform that will deliver consistent performance and reliability traversing every continent. EarthCruiser deliberated this very question and initially opted for the Mitsubishi Fuso 4WD as its chassis of choice, but after years of extensive real-world testing, the company transitioned to the Isuzu NPR. This legendary medium-duty truck is part of the N-Series family, which is ubiquitous around the world, and subsequently enjoys access to parts, services, and community support globally. It provides exceptional reliability (with many owners citing half-a-million-mile service lives), a generous payload, and impressive capability when optioned with 4WD. Cue today’s low-mileage 2021 Isuzu NPR Crew Cab 4×4 Expedition Truck (59,000 miles), which boasts premium modifications and a fully equipped, four-season-ready habitat. Highlights include a custom flatbed with integrated storage boxes, a lithium battery system supported by 800 watts of solar, climate control, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom, 70 gallons of freshwater, Starlink, and sleeping for five people (full details here). In addition, this build has been overhauled from the ground up for exploration with a heavy-duty 4WD conversion from Ridgerock Expedition Vehicles (featuring a custom shortened wheelbase), super single wheels, and a lifted, uprated suspension. Finally, this is not a proof of concept, and served as a full-time family home for almost a year and covered more than 50,000 miles across Western North America. This turnkey rig is available now with no lead time and is priced at $149,000, which is a fraction of what you’d expect to pay for an off-the-shelf alternative.

From the Seller:
“Most purpose-built overland expedition trucks cater strictly to couples. This custom legacy build was engineered from the ground up to safely seat a family of seven, sleep five, and carry two weeks of supplies and heavy adventure gear deep into the backcountry. Our family lived in it full-time for nearly a year, covering 50,000 miles across western North America. While the heavy fabrication of the truck’s chassis and flatbed was completed by industry professionals, the composite camper habitat itself was designed and personally hand-built by my children and me. We poured our hearts into creating a rugged, efficient, and deeply functional off-grid home. This vehicle gave our family a monumental, life-shaping experience. Now that our journey is complete, we are selling it so another family can have the same chance at a life-changing adventure. Beyond a world-class camper, it was designed with a ‘work all week, play all weekend’ philosophy. Using the included Reico Titan electric camper jacks, the entire custom composite habitat can be unbolted and removed, transforming the truck into an ultra-functional, heavy-duty commercial pickup with a premium 11-foot aluminum flatbed. It has a clean title and is currently registered as a motorhome for flexible driver insurance (can easily be re-titled as a commercial vehicle). It’s worth noting the rig is offered with an optional turn-key ‘Toy Hauler’ package [full details here].”
