I’ve lived on the road for almost 15 years, and most of this time was spent living in vans. Sure, there are more powerful, luxurious, and capable options available, but for travel and living on the road, they’re hard to beat. General Motors (GM) vans, such as the Chevy Express, are a great option, since from the factory they’re engineered for commercial applications and fitted with practical/comfortable interiors, powerful motors, and heavy-duty transmissions that are well-suited to the big mileage and challenging conditions synonymous with overlanding. It’s for these reasons and more that they’re beloved by the aftermarket with no shortage of parts and accessories to uprate them for adventure. Further still, they’re one of the few vans that enjoy access to on-demand 4WD conversions from the likes of Quigley, Advanced 4×4 Vans, and Clydesdale Vans. However, this is certainly not essential for overlanding, as demonstrated by Slow Roamers who’ve been traversing the Pan-American highway in their 2WD Chevrolet Express “Betty.” To this end, cue your next travel companion, a 2017 Chevrolet Express 3500 RWD (82,000 miles), which boasts the desirable 6.0-liter V8 motor, a plethora of premium modifications, and a camper conversion. Despite its modest exterior footprint, this intentionally understated build delivers everything you need to hit the road, with amenities that include a lithium house battery system with solar (plus a Honda generator), roof-mounted air conditioning, 15 gallons of freshwater, an outside shower, and more. So, if you’re looking for a turnkey-ready rig to hit the road in 2026, this would serve as a great option.

From the Seller:
“I am the second owner of this van. It has been dealership maintained and the Weldtec lift kit was professionally installed and aligned. It drives and tracks like stock at highway speeds with no wandering issues. I wanted the bulletproof GM 6.0-liter V8 engine and body on a heavy duty frame for durability. It’s a basic build out with just the necessities to get you off the beaten path and remote for a few days at a time. Front and rear air-conditioning blow cold. There are no leaks underneath and it’s rust free. Clean title in hand and routine maintenance is up to date. An additional heavy duty 3-point hitch, motorcycle hauler with generator tray, and Honda EU2000i generator are included with the sale. It’s the perfect setup to get your adventures started.
