2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JKU w/ “Dan Grec Edition” Ursa Minor Pop Top :: Featured Classified

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

A few years back, I spent a year living and traveling in a 1992 Mitsubishi Delica L300 with little more than a bed platform and a battery system, which was a stark adjustment to my fully equipped Vanagon Syncro. I assumed the basic setup would be a frustration, but I quickly realized that a lighter, more minimalistic approach was very rewarding (as explored in my recent article Love, On a Budget). To this end, the Jeep Wrangler has become a very popular micro-camper with everything you need and nothing extra. There’s no shortage of drool-worthy builds online from the likes of Dan Grec, Wabi Sabi, Drew Simms, and today’s offering is no exception. The foundation for this exceptional package is a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (72,000 miles), which has been meticulously maintained, reimagined with premium modifications, and topped with a customized Ursa Minor J30 pop-top. Inside, we find a well-appointed and surprisingly spacious camper interior with underfloor storage and aluminium-framed cabinets covered with carbon-core honeycomb composite. Amenities include a lithium house battery system supported by 100 watts of hood-mounted solar, a Dometic compressor fridge, a stowable Lagun table (and tailgate table), USB outlets, and LED lighting. If that wasn’t enough, it’s sold with an assortment of recovery gear and camping essentials for two people, so you’re ready to hit the road. At $48,000, this package represents an impressive value when you consider that the cost of the stock vehicle new was the best part of $50,000, the starting price for a Ursa Minor J30 is over $7,000, and thousands have been spent on exterior/interior upgrades (maintenance/build receipts provided with sale). So, if you’re looking for a bargain turnkey rig for domestic and international adventures with a transferable bumper-to-bumper warranty, look no further.

Jeep Wrangler From the Seller:

This is a one-of-a-kind custom Jeep camper utilizing an Ursa Minor J30 with removable composite loft panels, allowing a completely open ceiling while inside the rear of the Jeep. To my knowledge, this might be the only other J30, besides Dan Grec’s, that has this open concept. This was built by an aviation technician with 20+ years in the aviation/aerospace industry. The primary goal was to build a strong, lightweight, off-road capable vehicle that was also comfortable as a shelter from the elements and stayed below the GVWR when fully loaded for adventure. Additionally, it needed to fit in a standard garage/shipping container. The loft comfortably sleeps two adults. It is unique in that the three composite reinforced loft panels and bed cushions are removable and stow above the cab when in ‘living room’ mode. This allows four adults to sit on the benches (though two is preferable). I left the center aisle open to allow living space and to store two bicycles if desired. My dream was to take this rig down the Pan-American Highway, but life happened. I would love to see it do that trip, and I think it would be perfect for two people.”
