Toyota Townace 4x4

I love a budget overland rig such as this $11,000 1994 Ford F-150, $7,000 2006 Chevrolet Suburban 1500, and $5,500 2006 Mitsubishi Montero. Affordable rigs ensure more disposable income for experiences, which should always be the priority. That said, the asking price is just half the story, so when choosing a cheaper vehicle it’s important to consider future repair and running costs, and to this end, pre-owned, Japanese-made vehicles are unmatched. I tested this theory last year when I bought a 1992 Mitsubishi L300 Delica 4×4 for under $7,000 to replace my poorly Vanagon Syncro and travelled/lived in it full time for a year (including a trip to Norway) with my only running costs being some routine serviceable items. It was a much needed reminder that a rig needn’t cost a fortune to be reliable, and with this in mind, cue today’s well-maintained 1989 Toyota Townace 4×4 (73,000 miles), which would serve as the ideal blank canvas for a full overland build and is priced at just $15,000. The Townace 4×4 has something of a cult following with inspiring builds from Brett Wilhelm, Otto Ex, and Valdis_BJ41

Toyota Townace 4x4From the Seller:

This is a low-mileage 4WD Toyota that is smog exempt, with a CA registered turbo-diesel motor, and is adventure ready. What else could you ask for? This is the best vehicle I’ve owned. I’m only selling because I need something that I can tow. If I could afford to keep both then I would. Recent work included timing belt change and new water pump, starter, battery, and a coolant flush with new lines. Needless to say, it’s ready for its next big trip. Clean CA title (smog exempt)”
