FJ Cruiser

It’s no secret that I have a soft spot for the FJ Cruiser, which still looks contemporary and purposeful. Despite its rarity, it’s also a popular platform with our members with recent adventure-ready offerings such as this 2007, 2008 Trail Teams, and 2013. However, don’t be fooled into thinking the FJ Cruiser is just some quirky concept since under the surface it boasts the legendary Land Cruiser Prado chassis (relied on by frontline agencies globally) and is powered by the bulletproof 1GR-FE V6 motor (also used in the 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra). It’s also loved by the aftermarket with a wide range of products and accessories to uprate this iconic 4WD for adventure. Subsequently, there’s no shortage of inspiring builds online from the likes of Rogue Overland, Independence Overland, and Outbound Intent. Cue today’s 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser (112,000 miles), which boasts the rare 6-speed manual transmission and premium modifications.

FJ Cruiser From the Seller:

In 2007, I was in the market for a replacement for a 1992 4Runner, and the FJs were new on the scene. I knew Toyotas were built for reliability, and that was important to me, so I purchased this one new and have had it ever since. I did the build slowly, focusing only on what I really needed for the type of wheeling I do. For instance, I rarely, if ever, wheel at night, so I didn’t spend a lot on fancy light bars. I did recognize ground clearance and protection as good investments, and I did a Toytec 3-inch lift, a Ricochet aluminum skid plate, and Demello sliders. Recovery points were also important, so I added the Demello front bumper and Smittybilt 10,000-pound winch. I’m now upgrading to a 2015 LX570, which doesn’t do trails as well as the FJ but does pull my Intech Flyer Explore trailer much better to the trailhead.”
