There’s no shortage of 4WDs on the market for overlanding, but for those serious about travel, the Land Cruiser remains a pinnacle choice. It’s a vehicle synonymous with absolute dependability and is, for all intents and purposes, over-engineered. The “Troopy” variant is widely considered the ultimate iteration for travel thanks to its extended wheelbase, generous payload, and international access to parts and services. There are a lot of 4WDs on the market that claim to be engineered for the backcountry, but I’m not sure there’s any vehicle with such a long-standing proven record of excellence in inhospitable places. Whether it’s frontline agencies, commercial applications, aid work, remote tourism, or military operations, the 70 Series has long been the default choice. However, like any older vehicles, the big issue with classic Land Cruisers is rust. This means you can spend a fortune on a Troopy and then end up paying almost the same again to restore it, which makes pristine examples extremely desirable. Cue today’s 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser Troop Carrier FZJ75 (353,xxx miles), which has recently been restored and painted (rust was minimal since it was imported from Saudi Arabia) and showcases a plethora of top-tier upgrades. The good news doesn’t end there, as this was built by The Fit Garage, which is renowned for its vehicle builds, especially 70-Series Land Cruisers. The garage states, “Customer has $50-60,000 in receipts through us for all the parts and work done. I have worked on probably 50+ Troopies and this is by far one of the nicest I have seen. Probably the nicest LHD unit I’ve seen, for sure.” If you’re already familiar with The Fit Garage, then you’ll understand the significance of that statement.
From the Seller:
“The dictionary defines Wanderlust as a ‘strong longing to travel.’ Those of us who have what I often refer to as a disease know that each time we leave home for another adventure, this feeling only grows stronger. I began traveling in my early 20s. I’ve quit successful jobs, left loved ones behind, and even moved with my wife and kids to Indonesia to try and calm the urge. It never helps. I have an incredible longing to travel. When I first laid eyes on the Toyota Troopy, my heart raced. The vehicle spoke to me. It represents the very ideal that I try to live by. ‘Live life like an adventure.’ I brought this Troopy to Bend Oregon, from Saudi Arabia and, with the help of The Fit Garage, brought it back to life. Each time I shut the door, I look back and smile. Whether you plan to take it camping or south to Ushuaia, it won’t let you down, and will always inspire more adventures.”
