In early May, Far Horizon Campers made the finals of the Camper of the Year Awards 2023 with the Tuff Track Escape, an innovative hybrid camper. The Tuff Track Escape is built to take on the challenging Australian terrain without compromising on luxury and convenience, and this off-road camper has apparently been meticulously designed and rigorously tested by Far Horizon Campers, ensuring it can withstand long journeys and challenging conditions in the rugged Australian environment.
The Tuff Track Escape is designed to offer a quick and easy setup and comes loaded standard with a host of features. Inside, the Tuff Track Escape offers a versatile layout that comfortably accommodates a family of four or Nikki “the Bush Barbie” Osborne and a mate. The camper comes with a queen-size bed featuring an innerspring mattress and twin bunk beds that can convert into a sitting area during the day. There is ample storage space, a pullout table for indoor dining, abundant lighting, and ventilation.
The camper offers several camping comforts, including an automatic pop top that opens with the press of a button. There is a continuous flow gas hot water system for the kitchen and shower, a dual battery system for powering appliances like an espresso machine, a sophisticated entertainment system that supports DVD/CD/USB/Bluetooth playback, and a portable toilet with inside access. The interior also features an upgraded kitchen layout designed to make cooking outdoors a breeze. The premium stainless-steel kitchen slides out with a built-in cutlery drawer. The kitchen is equipped with a high-output four-burner gas stove with flame-out protection for safe and efficient cooking. In addition, the camper is fitted with an external shower unit plumbed for hot and cold water, and the camper also features a large fridge slide compartment to keep your food and drinks fresh.
Externally, the camper is built with a resilient aluminum body finished in a two-pack enamel with a clear coat for added durability. The underbody is galvanized and coated with a stone resistant chip coat for extra protection. The camper sits on an independent trailing arm suspension with dual shocks and mud-terrain tires with black alloys, including two spare tires at the rear and 12-inch heavy-duty electric brakes with a handbrake. There are external toolboxes and hatches, internal slide-out drawers, and a sizeable under-bed storage space for storage.
The Tuff Track Escape’s new 2023 model maintains the same tare weight as the previous year’s model at almost 4,000 pounds, but has an increased Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) of 5,500 pounds and a reduced ball weight of 460 pounds.
The camper’s quick setup side and rear awnings provide generous outdoor coverage. The canvas is constructed with 440 gsm (15-ounces) Ozspec 1000+ Corespun canvas, ensuring durability, while the aluminum self-lock poles offer additional stability.
In terms of dimensions, the total length is 232 inches, with a width of 72.8 inches and a height of nearly 86 inches when the roof is extended. The 2023 Tuff Track Escape includes a dust reduction system fitted to the main storage area, stabilizer legs, automotive compression seals, and a Cruisemaster DO35 off-road hitch.
The Tuff Track Escape sits comfortably in the mid-range in terms of cost, which is justified by all the standard features and promised build quality. The trailer retails in Australian dollars from AUD 40,000 (about $26,000).
