Do you remember the Landwind X7 (you know, the Land Rover Evoque rip-off?). After a few years of litigation, a Beijing court, surprisingly, ruled that Landwind had copied five unique design elements of the Evoque and ordered a cease of production and sales as well as financial compensation to Jaguar Land Rover.
Now, Chinese SUV brand Jetour has released official images of its latest model, the Jetour Traveller SUV, previously known as the Jetour T-1. This all-new SUV combines elements of the Kia Soul, Land Rover Defender, and Ford Bronco externally and internally; the lawyers are already rubbing their hands together with glee.
The doppelganger SUV features a boxy design with black cladding and large wheels pushed far into the corners and is touted as being perfect for urban environments. The vehicle will be available in two-wheelbase options: an SWB with five seats and an LWB option with seven seats. All Traveler models will come with four-wheel drive and will be fitted with a BorgWarner 4WD system and a locking rear differential. Customers will also have the choice of petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
The gasoline options include a 1.6-liter turbo engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a 2.0-liter turbo engine with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. At the same time, the plug-in hybrid version will feature a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor. Official performance figures and outputs have yet to be released.
Jetour has also confirmed that the Traveler will come with a rear spare-wheel carrier, roof rails, and side steps, with the company marketing the clone as “an ideal choice for overlanders.” The company has also announced plans to offer special touring packs, bundling off-road accessories, and camping gear.
Inside, the SUV features a “unique” octagonal steering wheel, a large infotainment screen, and a chunky gear selector. While the exact size of the Traveller has not yet been disclosed, Jetour has revealed that the length is just over 4.8 meters, with a wheelbase of just over 2.8 meters.
The Jetour Traveller SUV is set to make its public debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in April, where more details about the vehicle are expected to be revealed. Jetour is a sub-brand of Chery Automobile, and the brand has expanded rapidly, offering a range of 13 different SUVs, including one fully electric model. The new Traveller SUV is expected to go on sale in China in May.
