The Land Rover Defender has a long history of doing important things and being a vehicle capable of saving and changing lives. This noble tradition continues, and Land Rover announced on Monday, the launch of its second annual ‘Defender Service Awards’ (presented by Chase, the consumer banking company) to celebrate and support U.S. non-profit and Canadian-based charitable organizations that are making a positive impact within their communities. Charities that serve the Search and Rescue, Environmental & Conservation, Veterans Outreach, Community Service, and Animal Welfare sectors are invited to submit videos describing how a new Land Rover Defender would help aid in their organization’s mission. These video entries will be considered from the 25th of July to the 07th of September.
The Defender 130 vehicle is spanking new in 2023 and features three rows of seating for up to eight people, along with 88.9 cubic feet (2,516 liters) of load capacity. The Defender 130 vehicle is built to be robust and capable of performing essential tasks such as assisting organizations with transporting animals, gear, or volunteers. Winning organizations will have the opportunity to outfit their vehicle with a custom exterior design wrap and select Land Rover accessories.
Above and beyond the generous vehicle donation by Land Rover, various category sponsors will be donating financial awards. As the presenting sponsor, Chase will donate $5,000 to each of the five finalists per category. Category sponsors include Pelican for Search and Rescue, Outside Magazine for Environmental & Conservation, dentsu X for Veterans Outreach, ei3 for Community Service, and KONG Company for Animal Welfare (yes, dentsu X, ei3, and KONG are real company names, we checked). Each category sponsor will donate $25,000 to its respective category winner.
Entrants can nominate organizations or organizations can nominate themselves by simply filling out the entry form (see link below) and submitting a short video (up to three minutes) that details the organization’s mission, how it addresses a need in their community and how the Land Rover Defender will be instrumental in supporting their efforts. Land Rover will call for entries through the 07th of September 2022, and if selected by a panel of qualified judges, the finalists’ videos will be posted on www.landroverusa.com and www.landrover.ca for public voting. All winners will be announced on the 01st of December, 2022.
The winners of last year’s ‘Defender Service Awards’ include Wolfe County Search and Rescue, New York Marine Center, Humane Society of Independence County, Montgomery Emergency Medical Services, One Tree Planted, Hamptons Community Outreach, and Navarre Beach Fire Rescue Inc. Each organization received a customized Land Rover Defender 110 to help further their community outreach efforts.

Please note that organizations must be a US 501(c)(3) non-profit organization or Canadian charitable organization in one of the five (5) Categories specified and must be approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt, charitable organization as of the 25th of July, 2022, and maintain its tax-exempt status (i.e., good standing) until the end of the Contest Period. The US 501(c)(3) must be a public charity or a private operating foundation, but not a private foundation.
