IRONMAN 4×4: RIGS & COFFEE

A large collection of classic and modern Land Cruisers, coffee, great company, and in-store promotions on overlanding gear—no, this isn’t Valhalla, but the monthly meet-up at Ironman 4×4, Portland.

That’s right, on the first Saturday of every month, you can drink coffee, check out awesome rigs, and get in-store deals on accessories. Launched by JSW Parts in 1988, Ironman 4×4 was initially established to produce springs and suspension parts in response to the increasing popularity of 4×4 vehicles and overlanding, recognizing that “standard suspension systems alone were not designed to cope with additional loads of bull bars, winches, and extra fuel tanks.” Since then, Ironman 4×4 has rapidly expanded its products to include winches, recovery equipment, protective bars, canopies, lighting, electrical upgrades, and more.

This event is about community and the opportunity to spend time conversing with fellow 4×4 enthusiasts. I’ve made many life-long friendships at gatherings such as this, finding them to be educational, inspirational, and most importantly, a lot of fun. If you’d like to attend, check out the details at ironman4x4.com, or head to Ironman 4×4 at 12905 SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road in Sherwood, Oregon.

No money in the bank, but gas in the tank. Our resident Bikepacking Editor Jack Mac is an exploration photographer and writer living full-time in his 1986 Vanagon Syncro but spends most days at the garage pondering why he didn’t buy a Land Cruiser Troopy. If he’s not watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, he can be found mountaineering for Berghaus, sea kayaking for Prijon, or bikepacking for Surly Bikes. Jack most recently spent two years on various assignments in the Arctic Circle but is now back in the UK preparing for his upcoming expeditions—looking at Land Cruisers.
