Overland Classifieds :: 2001 Land Rover Discovery II

The popularity of vehicle travel has increased exponentially over the past 10 years, and further accelerated during the pandemic, which is awesome. However, many of the vehicles and accessories showcased at events/online are expensive, giving the illusion that overlanding is reserved for the wealthy. In fact, overlanding is one of the most cost-effective ways to see the world, and there’s a large selection of 4WD vehicles perfectly suited to remote exploration for under $10,000. Land Rovers are arguably the pioneers of round-the-world overland adventures, and this meticulously maintained  Discovery II is yours for just $6,500. Check out Scott Brady’s Land Rover Discovery Shoot-out to learn more about this model.

From the Seller:

“This is my 2001 Discovery II, ready for overlanding adventures. [It’s a] California vehicle from the dry Central Valley, so rust is a complete non-issue for it, [and it has] the desirable locking center differential (many Disco II’s don’t have the locking diff).”

2001 Land Rover Discovery II

Landrover.co.uk states that the Discovery II was designed “not only as a utilitarian vehicle for all purposes, but as an everyday use vehicle, ready for daily family life.” This particular Discovery is fitted with the 4.0-liter V8 engine, which produces 188 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, and is matched with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Discovery II is longer and wider than its predecessor and showcases a 1,599-pound max payload and 5,500-pound towing capacity. Handling was improved thanks to Self-Levelling suspension and Active Corner Enhancement. The all-terrain capability was uprated via electronic systems such as traction control, electronic brakeforce distribution, and hill descent control.
