2027 Ram ProMaster Adds VanLife Trim

The camper van market has grown from a niche corner of the outdoor industry into a major force shaping vehicle development, and Ram is now embracing that reality with the introduction of a dedicated Vanlife trim level for the 2027 ProMaster. Designed specifically for adventure travelers, digital nomads, and weekend explorers, the new package aims to eliminate much of the expense and complexity traditionally associated with building a camper van from scratch.

Alongside the venerable Mercedes Sprinter, the Ram ProMaster has been one of the most popular foundations for camper conversions in North America. Its front wheel drive layout, square interior dimensions, and competitive pricing made it a favorite among DIY builders and professional conversion companies alike. The downside was that buyers often had to spend tens of thousands of dollars after purchase to create the base for a functional adventure vehicle.

Listening to the tidal wave of customers looking to build a live in vehicle, RAM have solidly addressed this issue for the 2027 model year.

Rather than delivering an empty cargo van, Ram will offer a factory equipped package that includes many of the upgrades buyers typically install themselves, including upgraded insulation, auxiliary power systems, roof mounted accessories, swivel front seats, integrated storage solutions, camping focused interior finishes, and prewired systems designed to simplify future customization.

It’s all about cost

Today a standard cargo ProMaster can easily cost more than $50,000 before any modifications. Add a basic camper conversion with insulation, electrical systems, storage, ventilation, and sleeping accommodations, and owners often find themselves spending another $30,000 to $60,000. Professional conversions easily push the total well into six figure territory. The a ProMaster equipped with the 2027 Vanlife trim is expected to begin at approximately $65,000 to $75,000 depending on wheelbase, roof height, and optional equipment, which represents significant savings, not to mention much less time and hassle required for a build-out.

In contrast to many aftermarket conversions that create complications with service and warranty, all the features provided on the new Vanlife trim will maintain full factory support and warranty coverage. Factory installed components are designed to work seamlessly with the vehicle and can be serviced through the existing dealer network.

A van for every need

There is no denying a van makes an excellent platform to build out a live-in vehicle, and clearly demand for adventure focused vehicles remains strong despite broader economic uncertainty. Remote work continues to allow more people to travel for extended periods, while social media has introduced millions of consumers to the realities and appeal of van based exploration. RAM is not alone in recognizing this market opportunity. Ford has expanded its Transit Trail lineup, Mercedes Benz continues investing heavily in the Sprinter camper market, and several manufacturers now offer factory supported adventure packages. The difference is that RAM appears to be taking a more direct approach by creating a trim specifically aimed at the vanlife community rather than simply offering rugged styling upgrades.

For travelers who want a capable platform for road trips, mountain biking, climbing, surfing, photography, or extended remote work adventures, the new ProMaster Vanlife could become one of the most compelling options on the market.

A decade ago, #vanlife was largely driven by DIY enthusiasts building custom rigs in their driveways. Today, the movement has become so mainstream that major automakers are designing and manufacturing dedicated trim levels around the exact features buyers want. More factory options are always a good thing for buyers, and result in lower costs, better reliability, stronger warranty support, and easier access to vehicles built specifically for exploration. Most importantly, it demonstrates that the adventure travel market continues to grow, evolve, and attract attention from some of the largest manufacturers in the world.
