A Mercedes Sprinter 4x4

I remember a time not so long ago when some overlanders would turn their nose up to the prospect of overlanding in a Sprinter 4×4. It wasn’t that the Mercedes was a bad vehicle but rather it had become a figurehead of the vanlife movement and gained an unwarranted reputation for being a bit chintzy. However, in more recent years this unfair portrayal has faded away as more hardcore travellers have turned to the Sprinter platform for round-the-world trips. In stock form, this is a very impressive go-anywhere vehicle but thanks to excellent aftermarket support owners can transform this vehicle into an extremely capable backcountry explorer. There’s no shortage of inspiration on the forum with recent adventure-ready examples including this 2022 Zenvanz build, a 1999 T1N 312D, and a 2018 Sportsmobile. Todays low mileage (67,000 miles) 2017 Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 is no exception and features a wide array of desirable upgrades and tasteful camper interior.

From the Seller:

This is a one-of-a-kind rig that I had built for me by GTRV Campervan Conversions in Sebastopol, California. I wanted a van where you could sleep two north/south to avoid crawling over one another in the middle of the night to pee. I required lots of water so I had a 50-gallon baffled tank built. I needed lots of storage so the garage is open wall to wall. The cassette toilet and shower are in a covered enclosure like the Nimbl rigs. The top of the enclosure makes a giant workspace for cooking prep. Lots of storage cabinets and a floor-to-ceiling pantry.”
