GX470 overland build

The Lexus GX470 is one of the few overland platforms that provides both sumptuous refinement and bulletproof backcountry performance. In the past, these vehicles were something of an impressive value and were largely overlooked by the overlanding community. However, this has changed in recent years, with more people recognizing the vehicle’s merits. Subsequently, it’s a popular choice on our forum, with recent examples including this 2005 Adventure Motors Build, 2005 Sport, and finally, this epic 2007 Campteq conversion. In addition, it’s a favorite with the Expedition Portal team and was therefore chosen as an Overland Journal project vehicle. Today’s (188,000-mile) 2003 Lexus GX470 is one of the nicest we’ve showcased, with over $30,000 in premium upgrades and topped with an Alu-Cab Gen 3 rooftop tent. In addition, at $32,000, it’s great value considering the build specifications and accessories.

From the Seller:

Over the last 8 years, I’ve taken this GX470 from bone stock to what is arguably one of the best-built GXs. I’ve invested over $30,000 in upgrading and improving every aspect of this rig to be capable, comfortable, and ready for any adventure. The truck spent its life in California, so there is no rust, and it has no mechanical issues. I’ve decided to sell it as a turn-key-ready rig. Just add gas, water, food, and bedding, and you can go almost anywhere.”
