As part of my role, I take care of Expedition Portal Classifieds and check out almost every rig posted to the forum. I see a lot of beautifully curated builds, so it takes something decidedly special to stop me in my tracks, and today’s F-250 is one of them. This 2000 model (133,000 miles) had one owner until 2023, when it was purchased by industry expert and Overland Journal podcast host Matt Scott. Those of you who follow Matt (@mattexplore) will know that when it comes to building overland vehicles, he spares no expense, and the result is always exceptional. Every upgrade and detail is meticulous, with each part and accessory being intentional and goal-focused. This iteration of the F-250 needs little introduction; it showcases the legendary “million-mile” 7.3-liter Power Stroke diesel motor and was engineered from the factory with rugged workhorse attributes well suited to overlanding. Matt has chosen a plethora of top-tier aftermarket upgrades that further enhance the platform’s strengths, address its shortcomings, and are in keeping with the classic styling. At just $28,500 OBO, this turnkey rig represents an excellent value when you consider the low mileage, condition, and upgrades, and is a fraction of the cost of modern full-size alternatives—and let’s face it, many times cooler. It’s the perfect confluence of capability, simplicity, reliability, and longevity while being modern and refined enough to use as a daily driver. I don’t use the word perfection loosely, but this F-250 comes pretty close; stick a camper or canopy on the back and see the world. From the Seller:
“The truck has recently been ‘gone through’ by a known mechanic, including a cooling system refresh and exterior trim refresh, where I tracked down all new OEM Ford parts, including a fresh grill and all exterior lights. The truck looks as close to showroom fresh as possible for 130,000 miles and has no dents, scrapes, major scratches, or paint fading. The previous owner had interior trim pieces painted black to match the black seats. There are some holes in the dash from radios and equipment installed over the years. New carpet was installed recently. The entire truck has been professionally sound-deadened. The transmission was recently rebuilt by the previous owner with upgraded parts, but I do not have documentation on it.”
