Gear Scout: Magpul Daka Pouch

We’re big fans of keeping things organized on the road. A well secured and sorted kit helps to mitigate gear rattling around the car, prevents bits and pieces from rolling under seats or being lost out the door, gives you a cleaner and less obstructed cabin in which to travel, and alleviates the frustrating ritual of searching through a pile of crap for whatever widget you need in camp. Most importantly though, it makes finding necessary tools and supplies a quick and easy task, often saving crucial seconds or even minutes in an emergency situation.

There are a seemingly infinite number of ways to complete this organization of your vehicle; from drawers, to bags, to boxes, but Magpul just released a product that we feel may be one of the most versatile methods.

They’re called Daka pouches, and they are perfect for taming a bundle of just about any gear you can think of. The pouch is constructed of a polymer infused textile with welded seams for weather resistance. The fabric is then embossed with an anti-slip texture for easy grip in wet weather and sealed off with a genuine YKK water resistant zipper. Translation? The Daka is a hardy made in the U.S.A. water resistant pouch that you can drop in the mud, spray off with water, or even bury for a rainy post-apocalyptic day.

So what the heck would you use them for? We think they would be perfect for your vehicle’s med-kit, tools, bug-out bag, kitchen kit, travel papers, registration and insurance papers, electronics cables, maps, dopp kit, ammo container, snacks, spare parts, and just about anything else you want to keep dry and organized. In fact, Magpul had a little fun and posted a great video of some of their favorite uses, including… robbing a store?

The Daka comes in three sizes and is scheduled to release sometime this spring. We’re looking forward to getting our hands on some to see just how many ways we can put them to work. For more information check out the Magpul website here.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Chris didn’t receive a real taste of the outdoors until moving to Prescott, Arizona, in 2009. While working on his business degree, he learned to fly and spent his weekends exploring the Arizona desert and high country. It was there that he fell in love with backcountry travel and four-wheel drive vehicles, eventually leading him to Overland Journal and Expedition Portal. After several years of honing his skills in writing, photography, and off-road driving, Chris now works for the company full time as Expedition Portal's Senior Editor while living full-time on the road.
