We love four-wheel drives here at Expedition Portal, but occasionally we prefer something a little different. Be it the lapping of waves on a paddle board, the silence of a hike on a misty morning, or the grit of rock beneath our hands while climbing, it’s nice to explore nature in a more personal way. That’s probably why we enjoyed this video from COAL headwear and Jam Collective. It follows a group of friends as they bikepack their way through the remote regions of Idaho, taking in some of the state’s most beautiful scenery along the way. They experience hidden gems like hot springs, trek over terrain too rugged for the bikes, and even portage them over snow-covered mountain slopes. If you’re looking for weekend inspiration, you’ll find it below.

Chris Cordes
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Chris didn’t receive a real taste of the outdoors until moving to Prescott, Arizona, in 2009. While working on his business degree, he learned to fly and spent his weekends exploring the Arizona desert and high country. It was there that he fell in love with backcountry travel and four-wheel drive vehicles, eventually leading him to Overland Journal and Expedition Portal. After several years of honing his skills in writing, photography, and off-road driving, Chris now works for the company full time as Expedition Portal's Senior Editor while living full-time on the road.
