The first minutes of this film may feel like there’s going to be an obvious political stance or underlying agenda, but I challenge you to keep watching because you’ll find that Transamericana is pleasantly devoid of politics. It’s a story about human connection, and discovering that sometimes the biggest journey is not the one that we’re undertaking on foot, but instead, our own internal journey of discovery and growth that physical challenges uncover. Ricky Gates is a professional runner, and while his feat seems super-human, he is indeed flesh and blood. This is his story of running 3700 miles, from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast.
