Video of the Week :: Restoration of a Land Rover Defender 90

A few precious videos on YouTube have inspired millions with a simple premise – an impressive project performed in a desirable setting, silent except for the impact of various tools (such wonderful ASMR!). In a digital world where creators clamber for attention by showing too much skin or having bombastic personalities, it is refreshing to come across videos that are as skillfully made as the project they portray. Mathis Ox’s Defender 90 restoration project is one such video (comparable to Northmen’s “Birth of a Wooden House,” dedicated to the creator Jakob’s family and Richard Pronneke), highlighting both the young German’s filmmaking and technical skills while allowing the viewer to relax and immerse completely in the project, without distraction. By the end of the video, the viewer is fully invested in the project vehicle and impressed not only by the concept’s quality but also by the practicality of the little overland vehicle, proven by a trip to Tunisia.
